SADBERGE HISTORY TRAIL

Point 3 – Top Cottage

Plaque

Introduction

The Top Cottage – which later became the White House – was formerly The Red Lion, one of the three public houses in Sadberge at the time.  Many people remember it better as the Top Shop (which it became after The Red Lion closed).  It is included in the Sadberge History Trail because it represented an important part of village life – sadly now declining – as pub and then a local shop.  It closed as a shop in the 1980s, leaving only the Sadberge Post Office as a local source of groceries, newspapers, stamps. etc.
