SADBERGE PARISH COUNCIL

Precept

Plaque

The parish precept is the annual funding that the Parish Council obtains from households within the parish.  Darlington Borough Council collects the parish precept as an element of Council Tax, and then passes it on to the Parish Council.  The Parish Council determines its precept requirement in December each year as part of the process of setting its budget for the following financial year (which runs from April to the following March).

The grant was the annual grant from Darlington Borough Council.  It was discontinued in 2013.

The Council Tax Support Grant is a subsidy paid by the Government to ease the burden of council tax payments.  The subsidy is paid to the Billing Authorities – in our case, Darlington Borough Council – which then pass on the relevant amounts to parish councils.  In practice, the Parish Council specifies the total income it needs for the relevant financial year and the Borough Council pays part of this as the Council Tax Support Grant and includes the remainder in the precept element of the council tax bills paid by Sadberge residents.
